Teaching and Learning Statement

As a result, I am committed to learning for the rest of my life.
Learning a new skill empowers me to share a new skill. I believe this is how we can advance our capabilities and turn dreams into reality.
At a young age I was forced to learn through Traditional Learning Methods and was unable to cope with some concepts. As I grew older, I discovered alternative methods to learning. I knew this was how I can help others learn better.
My teaching and learning model is based on experiential learning. A method for learners to participate with hands - on activities, role playing, projects and problem solving. This direction encourages participants to be actively involved in experiencing realistic situations while gaining best practice and acumen to execute or apply learning.
Incorporating Blended Learning, allows participants to become immersed in various scenarios. Learners show improved comprehension in the subject matter.
With that said, making education accessible to all is my top priority. With an understanding that learning barriers are not always visible, I focus my efforts to connect the learning with participants using a combination of teaching techniques.
An active advocate for access to technology, resources and facilities, I am always seeking ways to improve the effectiveness of learning, thus, becoming an effective leader.
Setting the optimum environment is just as, if not more important to my learning model. By creating an inclusive environment, participants feel welcomed and comfortable. They are empowered to ask questions, spark debate and perform activities through a supportive culture.

About Me
Dressed as a hospitality professional, my true passion is helping others achieve their goals. With 20 years of work in the Hospitality Industry, I have focused my career to serve others. Becoming proficient in this field, diversifies my ability to mentor, coach and develop Hospitality focused businesses and people using experience and education to support my credibility.
As I continue my professional journey, I like to think of my career as one big learning experience that continuously grows with each project and collaboration. With a dedication to functionality and a curiosity for what’s ahead of the curve, I keep my work practical, relevant and creative.
Consulting for some of Toronto’s most successful Hospitality companies, I find myself applying a teaching and learning philosophy beyond a class room. The knowledge and skill acquired through my continuing education studies remain valuable to client needs especially when it comes to advising on how to coach, train or educate on internal changes that are occurring.
Leading training for Employment Ontario approved programs has exposed some of the inequities the we faces when it comes to universal education and training for employment. I choose to build on top of what I have learned over the years, enabling learners with a platform and supports to continue learning.
Employment with George Brown Polytechnic's Faculty of Business, Creative Industries and Culinary Arts and Centennial College’s School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts solidified my love for sharing knowledge and skill with adults who are motivated to learn. This opportunity has provided me with the experience to manage large and diverse groups. Maintaining high standards for performance and learning was key to this role and has shaped me into the motivator that I pursue to be.
Relative education for this role include a Diploma in Food and Beverage Management, Certified in Workplace Learning and Adult Education and Certified in Culinary Arts from George Brown College.
